LedEdit 2014 is a free program that enables you to configure the T-1000S SD card RGB LED pixel controller. The program automatically detects the device connected to your computer and it allows you to set up your projects, the desired video effects and to preview and edit recordings.
The program is designed especially for gamers who enjoy immersive gaming, providing the ability to customize lighting effects that are activated by action on the screen.

AlienFX is fully compatible with the LED controls for keyboards, touchpads/trackpads, keyboard zones and other areas where LED lighting is present.
Keyboard lighting is divided into zones, meaning separate areas can be lit up with different colors or all together as a unified color scheme. A color wheel can be used to choose which colors are used and gradients may also be applied.
AlienFX comes with different preset themes and anything that is user-created can be saved as a preset under 'My Themes'.
The program can also be configured to activate different patterns during set events, such as when an email is received.
Alienware AlienFX is supposed to work with the Alienware Command Center and anybody who wishes to install the program should certainly own an actual Alienware PC, not an imitation. The application is generally used with older systems as newer versions of Dell's customization for Alienware PCs is directly built-in to the system software.

Hardware
LED Dot matrix driven by MAX7219 works perfect with Arduino
Code samples
Samples below implement this animation:
These samples use a LedControl (library for the MAX7221 and MAX7219 Led display drivers) to switch LEDs ON/OFF.
Matrix as a 64-bit long integer
State of the 8x8 matrix can be presented as an unsigned long integer (uint64_t).
In this case the code is pretty compact. Like this code for Arduino:
Matrix as array of bytes
Some people prefer to operate with arrays of bytes instead of long integers.
This case is also supported. Here is example of using an array of bytes in binary format:
Animation data in PROGMEM

Arduino has limited amount of RAM. For example my UNO based on ATmega328P has only 2KB of RAM. Not very much. But it has 32KB of Flash memory. Why not to use it for storing animations? No problem. Just push this data into the PROGMEM and then read them.
